Edina Alibasic
Who are you?
My name is Edina, I‘m a Research and Development Manager. My background is mainly within refractory industry. I am responsible for leading product development, managing research, laboratory activities and driving innovation.
How old are you and for how long do you work in the refractories industry?
I am 49 years old and have nearly 15 years of experience in the refractory industry. After completing my studies in Industrial Ceramic Production and Ceramic Materials, I began my career as a Development and Quality Technician.
Over the years, I have worked on a wide range of projects across different areas, gaining valuable technical expertise and leadership experience. This continuous professional development has led me to my current position as R&D Manager.
Who has significantly influenced your professional life?
I have been fortunate to have several inspiring mentors throughout my career. My first mentor, Östen Ivarsson, introduced me to the world of ceramics and helped me apply the knowledge from my studies to real-world challenges.
This experience led me into the refractory industry, where Natalija Rajkovic guided me in developing my expertise in refractory materials.
Today, my greatest mentors are Hanna Landell and Ronald Robles. Their leadership, support and encouragement have played a key role in my professional growth and continue to inspire me.
Tell us something about your personal background. What do you burn for besides refractories?
Outside of work, I enjoy staying active and spending time with family and friends. I have a interest in fitness and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. I enjoy going to the gym, taking long walks and spending time outdoor. I also enjoy reading books as I believe continuous learning is important both personally and professionally.
I am motivated by new challenges in both my professional and personal life. I value teamwork, reliability, and a positive attitude. I always strive to contribute with energy, commitment, and a willingness to learn.

Why did you join Women@Refractories?
I joined the Women@Refractories Leaderboard because I wanted to be part of a network where women inspire, support, and empower each other while promoting diversity in the refractory industry
How has the initiative impacted your professional or personal life?
This initiative has primarily had a positive impact on my professional life by helping me build a broader network and connect with people I might not otherwise have had the opportunity to meet.
On a personal level, Women@Refactories has been a valuable reminder of the importance of gender equality. It has been making me more aware of equality-related issues in my everyday life and encouraging me to reflect on how I can contribute to creating a more equal environment. I believe that this increased awareness, both professionally and personally, is one of the most valuable outcomes of being part of the initiative.
Which specific tasks or areas do you currently support within the initiative, and/or in which areas would you like to contribute in the future to expand your professional or soft skills?
Currently, I mainly contribute by participating in activities and discussions within the initiative, sharing experiences and learning from others.
How did becoming a member of Women@Refractories and its Leaderboard changed your professional network?
As mentioned earlier, becoming a member of Women@Refractories has had a positive impact on my professional life by expanding my professional network. It has given me the opportunity to connect with colleagues and professionals I may not otherwise have had the chance to meet, which has broadened my network and provided valuable new connections.
